Working in the resort
Seasonal work is available on Skiathos, but you would be well advised to start looking in May, when many of the tavernas and bars open for the season. Those searching around this time (and who can commit to working through until October) will find many opportunities, but these will have been taken by July and August. There are many English/international bars on Skiathos and these could be a particularly fruitful source of employment. In practice young women will find it easier to obtain work in bars. Cocktail making skills would be a benefit in many places.
People are also needed to clean boats, villas, and swimming pools, but permanent residents take much of this work.
Some amount of paperwork is officially required. Foreign workers need to obtain a ‘health book’ which requires a blood sample and a chest examination. There is various other tax and social security related bureaucracy, although employers will help with this. EU residents working for more than 3 months will need to apply for a resident permit by visiting a police station. Anecdotal evidence suggests that some people obtain work without completing the necessary paperwork.
