May, June, July & August

This is when the tourism season begins in earnest and related industries gear into action.  In May the average daytime temperature is in the low twenties, and nights can be chilly.  Crowds are still thin at this time, but temperatures rise throughout late spring and summer to reach a height in August, when visitors flood in thick and fast.  Accommodation prices soar in high season as rooms become fully booked, and the number of people on the island rises massively.

At the height of summer (July and August), the weather is very hot (mid thirties throughout the day, twenties at night) and rainfall is extremely rare.  There are 10-11 hours of sunlight per day.

This is the time to come for sunbathing and lounging on the beach.  It is not sensible to stay in the full heat of the sun for too long, especially if unaccustomed to such weather.  In the very last week of August, the crowds become noticeably thinner and there is more space on the beaches and in the clubs.
