January, February, March and April

The earliest months of the year lie outside the main tourist season.  Most tavernas, bars, and other tourist-oriented services will not be in operation and visitor numbers are very low.  Temperatures in January are cold: normally between 5 and 10  degrees Celsius.  Light snow normally falls at some point, and heavy snowfall has been experienced at times.  Winters in Skiathos are generally wet through to March (the rain helps to nurture the island’s lush green landscape), with 4-8 hours of sunlight per day.  This is not the time of year for a beach holiday.

By April the number of visitors begins to increase as the temperatures increase (to highs of about twenty degrees) and the rainy season ceases.  Spring can be a good time to visit for those put off by the crowds and sweltering heat of summer – the landscape appears more colourful and has yet to be parched by the unforgiving sun.
