Beaches close to Skiathos Town
The closest beach to Skiathos Town is Megali Ammos (Blue Flag). There is a footpath opposite bus stop 5 and it is also only a few minutes’ walk from the top of Skiathos Town (Acropolis, bus stop 4, where there is also a large car park next to the Health Centre).
The town is within clear view of the beach and its proximity means Megali Ammos has more than its fair share of tavernas, cafes and bars nearby. On the eastern end just above the beach are Taverna Lykophos (Twilight) and Cafe del Mar, which sells cocktails starting at about 7 euros. Further along, you can sip a coffee or beer in the shade at Taverna Thessaloniki or Cafe Anemoni. The laid back Swell beach bar, attached to the Angelika hotel at the bottom of the footpath from bus stop 5, is a perfect spot for some refreshing yoghurt with fruit and honey or a smoothie.
There is also a watersports hut on the beach, playing music though at a relatively unobtrusive level (see the general section above for watersports prices).
The further west along Megali Ammos you go, the quieter and less developed it becomes, and towards the very end the beach (below bus stop 6, car parking spots also available above the beach) the sun bed density declines and refreshment is provided only by a tiny, ramshackle taverna/hut.
