Ruined town of Kastro
The ruined town of Kastro, on the north coast, was formerly the capital of Skiathos (the population moved there from Skiathos Town when pirate attacks became too frequent), and is worth visiting to see the ruins and restored churches, and to look out to Skopelos and the mainland from the highest point. Kastro can be accessed either on foot, or on island tour boats (the town is a fifteen minute walk up from the beach).
